Debbie Stapley creates an unusual belt from some pretty tough stuff : Venetian blind weights! Materials: 12-14 weights from vertical Venetian blinds 1-1/2 yards velvet cording Patina Green (R) antiquing paint set 2 sponge brushes - Remove chains joining weights together before cleaning them.
- Use sponge brush to apply copper paint from set on one side of each weight and allow to partially dry.
- Lightly daub the antiquing solution over the copper to create a verdigris finish. Allow paint to dry fully.
- Place a knot at one end of velvet cord and a second knot 8" from the end. Begin weaving the cord through the holes in the weights, leaving 1" of cord between each weight.
- When belt is desired size, place a knot close to last weight and another at the end of cord.
