    Figure B

Interior designer Cheryl Flanagan stayed true to form in the dining room she designed for the Harlem United Show House in New York City. The home was built during the arts and crafts period, and some elements of the period, such as original paneling, remained.

A collection of period furnishings of the arts and crafts era blends nicely with African art and contemporary dinnerware. Arts and crafts furnishings -- including an original Stickley sideboard with hand-hammered metal pulls (figure A), a leather-covered demi-lune table (figure B) and a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired dining table and chairs -- are illuminated with the amber glow of period lighting. A Tibetan rug in subtle tones of gold, rust and green reflects the organic color and style of mission accessories.
