Glass and Jar Cozies

For all of these cozies and covers, embellish as desired with old buttons, appliqué, patches, beads or ribbon trims.

Jar Cover

Materials:

child’s-size sock
jars
needle and thread.
scissors

• Slip a child’s sock over the bottom side of the jar. Cut the excess portion off at the heel of the sock (Figure A).

• Slide the sock down so that it extends past the bottom of the jar.

• Stitch a running stitch around the edge of the sock under the jar and draw the sock together by pulling the thread (figure B). Most jars have an indentation at the bottom, so the drawn-together sock under the jar won’t keep it from sitting flat.

• Stitch the opening shut and tie it off. Embellish with beads, appliqué, buttons or other materials (figure C).

Drinking Glass Cozie

Materials:

standard-size drinking glass
ladies’-size sock
needle and embroidery floss
scissors

• Since drinking glasses are flat on the bottom, it’s important to keep the cozie from extending under the glass and making it unstable.

• Cut the sock off above the heel (figure D).

• Roll the cut end of the sock over to the outside, twice.

• Use a contrasting color of embroidery floss to stitch the rolled part of the sock to hold it in place; Michele Beschen used a blanket stitch (figure E). Tie off the floss and embellish as desired (figure F).

• Slip the sock over the drinking glass.

Drinking Glass Storage Cover

Materials:

standard-size drinking glass
ladies’ or men’s size sock
acissors

• Cut the sock off at the toe.

• Slip the top portion of the sock over the opening of the glass.

• Create a cuff by rolling the opposite end over twice. Push the cuff down around the opening of the glass.
