Funky Leather Belts and Velvet-Wrapped Bracelets

Materials:

leather belt blank or purchased belt
circle leather punch (for this project, set to the largest hole)
belt buckle (if using blank)
wool dye dauber and cotton swabs
2 colors of 1/2" velvet ribbon, 1 yd. each (or the length of the belt, plus 2")
round-nose pliers
charms
jump rings
Fabri-Tac
masking tape

1. With a permanent marker, mark points along the center of the belt, approximately 1" apart (figure A).

Note: Belt designs can vary, based on pattern and placement of marked points.

2. Using a leather punch, punch holes on the marks down the center of the belt (figure B).

3. To facilitate weaving the ribbon, pinch one end of the ribbon and wrap with a piece of tape, like a shoelace (figure C). Beginning on the back of the belt, pull ribbon through the first hole, leaving a 1/2" tail; continue weaving ribbon through the belt holes, trimming away excess ribbon at end of the belt (figure D). Using Fabri-Tac glue, glue ribbon ends to the back of the belt (figure E).

4. Optional: Attach a few charms to the ribbon using jump rings.

Velvet-Covered Bracelet

Materials:

3/8" velvet ribbon (approximately 2 yd.)
old bangle bracelet
Fabri Tac or Quick Hold glue
scissors

1. Starting on a slight angle, glue one end of the ribbon to the inside of the bracelet (figure F).

2. Wrap ribbon around the bracelet at a slight diagonal; glue ribbon as it's wrapped to ensure it stays in place (figure G). When ribbon meets ribbon, snip off any excess and glue the end to the inside of the bracelet (figure H).
