    Materials:

    Card stock or cardboard
    10 1-1/2" fender washers
    5 toothpicks
    Hot glue
    Scissors
    Ruler
    Clothespins
    Markers or paint and brushes
    Craft knife
    Pencil
    Glue

    1. Measure and cut two pieces of card stock, 2" by 24".

    2. Glue strips together, leaving a 1" tab at each end (figure A).

    3. Cut five slots (figure B), 1/2" by 2", in the center of the strip, spacing about 1-1/2" apart. The cardstock can be stiff, so you may need an adult to help cut this.

    4. Bend the strip into a circle and glue the tabs together, one overlapping the other (figure C). Hold together with clothespins while the glue dries. If needed, you can add an extra piece of cardboard over the seam where the ends meet to make it stronger.

    5. Cut sharp ends off five toothpicks. Insert two washers through each toothpick (figure D). Hot-glue toothpick in the center of each slot so that washers are hand free.

    6. Paint to decorate.

Tip: Have an adult supervise anytime you are using sharp tools and hot glue.

All products can be purchased at craft, hardware, and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products are needed.
